North East Derbyshire, like the other districts in the First Art area, a former coal mining district and the demise of the industry impacted heavily on its people and place. The rolling hills, woodlands and small towns make it a picturesque place to escape but many of its towns and villages being rural brings challenges, especially when it comes to accessing the arts.
